SMS Demag to Upgrade Arcelor’s Bremen Converters for Gas Recovery
08/23/2007 - SMS Demag will upgrade the dust collection system for ArcelorMittal’s two 290-tonne converters at Bremen, preparing it to be retrofitted with a converter gas recovery system.
Arcelor Bremen, Germany, has awarded a contract to SMS Demag, Germany, to upgrade the primary dust collection system for its oxygen steelworks. As part of the upgrade, SMS Demag will prepare the system to be retrofitted with a converter gas recovery system.
As the first stage of the project, SMS Demag will revamp the two 290-tonne converters’ cooling stacks, equipping them with SMS Demag Baumco adjustable skirts. The skirts can be moved hydraulically to the converter mouth during the blowing phase to effectively capture the primary off-gases under suppressed combustion, and substantially reduce diffuse dust emissions.
SMS Demag’s scope of supply includes planning of the integrated plant and the supply of all core components, including the switch-over stations and pressure-boosting stations for conveying the gas to points other points within the works where they can be further utilized.
SMS Demag will also supply the basic engineering for the electrical equipment and the X-Pact® electrical and automation systems.
Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for the first half of 2009.
