SMS Demag AG, Germany, has received an order from Ural Steel AG (formerly Nosta), Russia, to supply a 120-tonne electric arc furnace for the company’s Novotroitsk works.

Hot metal will be the preferred charge material for the new electric arc furnace. This furnace will replace electric arc furnace No. 2 (100 t) and provide the slab caster, which was supplied and successfully commissioned by SMS Demag in October 2004, with an annual capacity of 900,000 tonnes.

SMS Demag’s scope of supply also includes a dust collection facility, modernization of the existing bin system, and engineering for the hot metal charging facilities. SMS Demag will also provide the entire electrical equipment and automation, including Level 2

Commissioning of the electric arc furnace and accessory equipment has been scheduled for March 2006.
