SMS Demag to Supply EAF for OAO Severskij Tube

OAO Severskij Tube (TMK Group), Russia, has awarded SMS Demag, Germany, a contract for the supply of a 1.0 million tonne/year electric arc furnace meltshop for its Polevskoy works.

SMS Demag’s scope of supply comprises a 135-tonne ARCCESS® type electric arc furnace, scrapyard equipment, a dedusting plant, an additive supply system, and lime and filter-dust injection equipment. The ARCCESS furnace has been designed for optimized use of both electric energy and burner/oxygen injection technology; together these technologies yield high productivity at low production cost.

SMS Demag’s scope of supply also comprises all electrical equipment, including the higher-level process control system (Level 1) and the technological process model (Level 2) for the furnace process. SMS Demag will test the automation system according to its proven “Plug & Work“ procedure prior to commissioning.

The new electric arc furnace meltshop at Severskij, which will completely replace the former Siemens-Martin steelworks, will satisfy the most stringent pollution control requirements. Commissioning is scheduled to take place at the end of 2007.

SMS Demag had previously commissioned a ladle furnace for Severskij Tube, and a new bloom caster is currently under erection.

The TMK Group is one of the largest producers of pipe steel grades for Russia’s oil, gas and building industry, with production concentrated in the Volsky, Taganrog and Severskij works.
