SMS Demag to Supply Compact Hot Strip Mill for Colakoglu Metalurji
09/04/2007 - SMS Demag will construct a compact, 330-meter long, 3 million tonnes per year hot strip mill for Colakoglu Metalurji AS.
Colakoglu Metalurji AS, Turkey, has awarded SMS Demag, Germany, an order to construct a compact hot strip mill. The order comprises supply of the mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
The new mill, which will be built in Gebze, close to Istanbul, will be designed for an annual capacity of 3 million tonnes of hot strip ranging in gages from 1.2 to 25.4 mm and widths from 800 to 1650 mm. The product range extends from low-carbon steel grades to high-strength low-alloy steels, pipe grades, and multiphase steels.
The 330-meter long hot strip mill will feature a highly compact construction. It will include a four-high roughing stand with edger, a mandrel-less coilbox, seven CVC plus® four-high finishing stands, laminar strip cooling, and two fully hydraulic coilers.
The finishing mill will be equipped with technology packages and components including the CVC plus system with integrated workroll bending, roll-gap lubrication, interstand cooling and hydraulic loopers, along with the process models and control systems optimized for these facilities. The mill also will be equipped with the ProBAS systems engineering from SMS Demag and with modern intermediate-circuit converter drive technology.
Before being installed locally, SMS Demag will test the complete automation system using the Plug & Work procedure. Pre-optimization of the automation system will ensure short commissioning and a steep run-up curve. SMS Demag and Colakoglu Metalurji have also agreed on a long-term cooperation in order to further develop the plant engineering and the automation systems.
The new works is scheduled to go into operation in the fall of 2009.
