SMS Demag to Provide Shearing Line for Handan Iron and Steel
11/26/2007 - Handan Iron and Steel of China orders a heavy shearing line from SMS Demag that is capable of producing 2- to 16-meter leveled hot-strip plates.
Handan Iron and Steel Group Co. Ltd., Handan, China, has awarded an order to SMS Demag to supply a heavy shearing line.
The new line will incorporate two precision levelers together with the leveling model developed by SMS Demag to deliver optimized plate flatness with a minimum of residual stresses. Final product quality will be equivalent to that of heavy plate with very good properties for high-pressure vessel construction, shipyard and bridge construction and pipeline manufacture.
Feedstock for Handan’s new shearing line will be hot-strip coils with a strip width of 800 to 2130 mm and a strip gage ranging from 5 to 25.4 mm. After a delivery time of 22 months, the mill, designed for an annual production of 450,000 tonnes, will produce leveled hot-strip plates of 2 to 16 meters in all of the same strip widths and gages. The cutting speed will be about 40 meters/minute.
SMS Demag’s scope of supply comprises the flying shear as well as the electrical and automation systems.
