SMS Demag Takes X-Melt Ladle Furnace into Operation at Georgsmarienhütte

SMS Demag AG has successfully taken into operation the 140-tonne ladle furnace supplied to Georgsmarienhütte GmbH, Germany.
 
SMS Demag’s scope of supply comprised the manufacture, erection and commissioning of plant and equipment for the secondary metallurgical field. SMS Demag also supplied a 140-tonne ladle furnace with a transformer capacity of 25 MVA; the water supply and treatment system; a stirring-gas control station; and the ladle transfer car. An existing ladle furnace at the Georgsmarienhütte works also was modernized as part of this new plant-building project.
 
SMS Demag supplied a common dust-collecting facility for the two ladle furnaces, as well as carbon injection systems, a T&S lance, transfer station for the two ladle furnaces, and the electrical and automation systems.
 
Starting with quality steel and high-grade structural steel, Georgsmarienhütte GmbH produces steel bars, semi-finished products and bright steel, predominantly for the automotive industry and its suppliers. Acquisition of this new plant helped the company to reach its goals of achieving increased production and improving its metallurgical treatment options.
