05/16/2008 - PTKS, Indonesia, has placed an order with SMS Demag and its consortium partners to modernize the company’s hot strip mill in Cilegon, West Java.
PTKS (Krakatau Steel), Indonesia, has placed an order with SMS Demag and its consortium partners to modernize its X-roll hot strip mill in Cilegon, West Java.
The modernization will allow PTKS to increase the production of its hot strip mill by approximately 20% while also improving product quality and extending the product range.
The modernization comprises the revamp of the edger, including commissioning of an automatic width control system (AWC) to improve strip width tolerances and to minimize crop losses. New work-roll cooling systems will be installed in the finishing mill, and anti-peeling and interstand cooling systems also will be installed.
Upon completion of the upgrade, all finishing mill stands will possess CVC plus® technology. This technology, along with work roll bending in mill stands F1 to F3 and a new profile, contour and flatness control (PCFC) will help to further improve product quality. A new laminar cooling system will be installed to enable PTKS to improve its cooling strategies.
SMS Demag’s consortium partner, Siemens AG of Germany will supply new basic and process automation for the roughing mill, finishing mill and cooling section on the basis of the completely integrated solutions concept Siroll HM.
Consortium partner TENOVA of Italy will modernize the two slab reheating furnaces and upgrade the roll shop with Pomini grinding technology.
