Czech steel manufacturer Trinecké Zelezárny has awarded SMS Demag AG, Germany, the final acceptance certificate for the first of two LD converters that SMS Demag is supplying for their oxygen meltshop.

Final acceptance for the converter was confirmed within four weeks of commissioning. During this period, the converter had already produced 100,000 tonnes.

SMS Demag’s scope of supply included delivery of the two converter vessels, trunnion rings, lamella suspension devices and trunnion bearings as well as the converter gearing with four
frequency-controlled drive motors. SMS Demag will also supply a lifting winch with pneumatic emergency operation for the oxygen blowing lance.

The second converter will be commissioned in autumn 2005.
