SMS Completes First Round of Upgrades to Exhaust System at Swedish Mill
12/21/2016 - Swedish tool steel maker Uddeholm AB is modernizing the EAF offgas system at its Hagfors site and has completed the first phase of work, according to the vendor on the project.
According to SMS group, the work entailed installation of a SMS Frustum fume hood, a new secondary duct system, a new pulse jet filter and a high-efficiency axial cyclone.
In a statement, SMS said the upgrade provides for an increased suction capacity of 800,000 cubic meters per hour.
“The new filter technology from SMS group thus helps Uddeholm to achieve better evacuation of the exhaust gases during the melting process in the electric arc furnace while minimizing energy consumption,” SMS said, adding that the improvement was so great that the mill was able to shut down the old filter, which was to have remained in operation.
"This provided additional energy benefits," the company said.
The second round of work on the project is to begin next summer.
