John Ferriola, chairman and CEO of Nucor Corp., had served as SMA’s chairman for the past two years, and will remain on SMA’s Executive Committee as past chairman.
Mr. Teets was appointed to his current position with Steel Dynamics in August 2008. One of the founders of Steel Dynamics, Mr. Teets is responsible for all of the company’s steelmaking operations and steel-finishing operations, including the Flat Roll Division, Structural and Rail Division, Engineered Bar Products Division, Roanoke Bar Division, The Techs, and Steel of West Virginia Inc.
Additionally, Tracy Porter, senior vice president of Commercial Metals Co. and president of CMC Americas, was elected as first vice chairman of SMA’s Board of Directors. Jeff Dyck, president of Cascade Steel, was elected as second vice chairman.
SMA President Philip K. Bell said, “John Ferriola did an exceptional job as chairman of the SMA. He was an effective leader during some challenging times for our industry. I am excited about our new leadership, and look forward to working with the rest of the SMA team to continue to promote the interests of the electric arc furnace steel industry.”
SMA is the primary trade association for North American EAF steel producers, often referred to as minimills. SMA’s 34 member companies account for over 75% of total domestic steel production.
