SKF Joins Research Effort for Fossil-Free Bearing Steel
10/06/2021 - Swedish bearing manufacturer SKF has signed on to support the development of fossil-free bearing steel in collaboration with the Center for Hydrogen Energy Systems Sweden (CH2ESS) initiative at Luleå University of Technology, SKF announced in a press release.
SKF has agreed to participate in and provide funding for research on hydrogen use in industrial processes and energy systems, thus accelerating the development of fossil-free bearing steel. The scope of the research will include hybrid ceramic bearings, electric vehicles and other applications, according to SKF.
“Mechanical components are very important to ensure the function and operation in future hydrogen systems,” said Victoria Van Camp, president of SKF Technology.
“Together with CH2ESS and its partners, we can contribute in designing robust, reliable hydrogen systems, with the lowest possible impact on the environment and on total cost of operation. This will not only benefit Swedish industry, but also global technology development for the future hydrogen economy.”
