Siemens VAI to Equip New Process Lines for Tata BlueScope Steel
07/11/2008 - Tata BlueScope Steel awards an order to Siemens VAI Metals Technologies to engineer, supply, erect and commission a color coating line and a hot-dip Zincalume line at the company’s facility in Jamshedpur, India.
Tata BlueScope Steel Ltd. has awarded an order to Siemens VAI Metals Technologies to engineer, supply, erect and commission a color coating line and a hot-dip Zincalume line at the company’s facility in Jamshedpur, India. The order volume is in the medium double-digit million Euro range.
Tata BlueScope Steel Ltd.—a 50:50 joint venture of Tata Steel Limited and BlueScope Steel Ltd of Australia—is currently building a production complex at Jamshedpur for the manufacture of high-quality surface-treated steel for use in the building industry. The new hot-dip Zincalume line will have an annual production capacity of 250,000 tonnes and the color coating line will be able to handle 150,000 tonnes of steel per year.
Siemens will engineer and supply all the mechanical and electrical equipment for both processing lines, and will also provide the basic and process automation. Siemens is also responsible for the installation work and will supervise commissioning. The design is based on optimized synergy of equipment between both lines.
Main key equipment will be manufactured and tested in the Siemens VAI workshop in Montbrison, France. Contract execution will be led by combined Indian and European teams to ensure seamless cooperation with the customer teams.
The color coating line is to start production at the end of 2009, and the hot dip Zincalume line in 2010.
