Siemens to Supply Welding Machines Tangshan Hengtong, Tangshan Bainite

Siemens Metals Technologies will supply Tangshan Hengtong Accurate Sheet Metals Co., China, with new welding machines. Tangshan Hengtong will use the new equipment—four LW 21 L laser-welding systems—for their hot-dip-galvanizing lines. The machines are scheduled to start operating in the fall of 2007.

Tangshan Hengtong will be one of the first Chinese steel companies to use laser-welding machines in a continuous hot-dip-galvanizing line. The aim is to increase the five-year-old plant’s performance and production flexibility. The laser welders will be used to prepare the coils for continuous operation of the strip-processing facility.

Supplied by Siemens Metal Technologies in 2006, the hot-dip-galvanizing lines are used to process strips with thicknesses between 0.3 and 2.5 mm and widths between 1000 and 1250 mm. Since the initial construction of their plant, Siemens Metals Technologies has supplied flash-butt- and mash-seam-welding machines, a temper mill, tension levelers, and air knives, all of which are now in use.

Siemens will also supply new welding machines for Tangshan Bainite General Steel Works, also in China.  The new FB 21 S flash-butt welding machines will be installed on Tangshan Bainite’s new coupled tandem-pickling line. They are scheduled to start operating in the summer of 2008.

Tangshan Bainite will use its new flash-butt-welding machines in the entry section of its new coupled tandem-pickling line. The 1450-mm cold-rolling mill with connected pickling line is being built by the Chinese plant-construction company, CISDI Engineering Co., Ltd. The FB 21 S flash-butt-welding machines have integrated shears and operate with direct current.

Siemens Metals Technologies is a market leader in the area of strip-welding equipment, providing conventional and proven solutions for flash-butt and mash-seam welding as well as laser-welding machines for a wide range of applications, including the processing of high-strength steels.
