Siemens to Extend Novelis Rolling Mill in Ulsan

Novelis Korea Ltd. has placed an order with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies to extend its aluminum rolling mill in Ulsan with the addition of a three-stand finishing line.

The project is aimed at boosting capacity and enabling future production of high-grade aluminum strip. The order volume is in the two-digit euro millions.

Up to now, the aluminum hot rolling mill operated by Novelis in the Korean city of Ulsan comprised a single reversing stand with two coilers and the necessary secondary systems, originally equipped by Siemens in 1993.

For the expansion project, Siemens will supply the mechanical and electrical equipment for the new, three-stand tandem rolling mill, coiler and coil handling system. Siemens also will install lightweight cropping shears in the entry to the finishing line. In future, the existing reversing stand will function as a roughing mill.

The first strip is to be rolled on the expanded rolling mill in July 2013.
