Aug. 23, 2006 — The Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) recently signed a five-year contract with Mittal Steel USA for caster maintenance services at Sparrows Point, Md.

This agreement, which will be implemented by the I&S company VAST (Voest-Alpine Services and Technologies), is a continuation of the company’s long-term partnership with this steel producer. Provisions for total service of the two continuous slab-casting machines will be carried out in addition to continued enhancement of equipment design and maintenance practices for optimized caster operations.

Mittal Steel USA–Sparrows Point, a division of Mittal Steel USA, is a fully integrated steelmaking facility located near Sparrows Point, Md. The company’s production facilities at this location include a sinter plant, blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace, slab casters, hot-rolling mill, cold-rolling mill, coating mill and a tin mill. A total of approximately 3.6 million tons of flat-steel products are produced each year that are sold as hot-rolled sheets, cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheet, Galvalume^(tm), tin-mill products and semi-finished steel to the construction, steel service center, automotive, container and appliance markets.
