Siemens Facility Receives Highest Award for Outstanding Safety
03/04/2013 - Siemens Industry Inc.'s Metallurgical Services Offline Maintenance facility in Milan, Ohio, has received the Gold Safety Award from Liberty Mutual for exceptional safety for the second consecutive year.
Siemens Industry Inc. announced that for the second consecutive year, its Metallurgical Services Offline Maintenance facility in Milan, Ohio, has received the Gold Safety Award from Liberty Mutual for exceptional safety. The Liberty Mutual Gold Safety Award is the highest level award for a facility based upon an outstanding safety record without a single lost time accident in 2011.
“This achievement, along with the 1,388 days without an OSHA recordable accident, proves we have developed a strong safety culture, where everyone is responsible for their own safety practices, as well as their co-workers.,” said Kirk Rounds, general manager at Siemens’ Milan facility. “We are always looking at new ways to enhance the safety standards at our facility.” The Siemens’ Milan facility has made significant improvements that contribute to employee safety. Installation of a new lighting system, retractable hoses at each work station, improved ventilation and overall shop organization and work cell design have been completed within the last year. In addition, the facility is trialing a new ergonomic welding MIG gun for all welders and fabricators, with the intent to overcome the long term effects of repetitive motion
Liberty Mutual’s Loss Control presents various safety awards for outstanding results in accident prevention and for meeting specific criteria based upon the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Days Away from Work and Restricted/Transfer Cases (DART). To win gold, a company must have a DART rate at least 80 percent better than similar companies with a minimum of 200,000 labor hours.
