Severstal Wraps Up Cold Mill Overhaul
07/20/2020 - PAO Severstal has rolled the first coil on a rebuilt tandem cold mill at its Cherepovets plant in northwest Russia, reports project contractor SMS group.
According to SMS group, the project focused on the exit section as well as on the drive motors at stand Nos. 2 to 4 and the mechanical drives, including the spur gear-pinion gear units, motor couplings and drive spindles.
At the exit section, a new tension reel with drive motor was installed and the Ward-Leonard converter was replaced.
The work was carried out during a 42-day outage, and the project has increased rolling speeds and strip tensions, the company said.
“After the successful commissioning, PAO Severstal now has a completely renewed and state-of-the-art tandem mill enabling full exploitation of the maximum rollable strip width of 1,850 mm,” SMS group said.
