Severstal Plans Stamp Charged Coke Plant
07/30/2018 - Coke oven and blast furnace specialist Paul Wurth has won a contract to build two stamp-charged coke batteries for Severstal’s Cherepovets steel works in Russia, the company has announced.
In a statement, Paul Wurth said the batteries will consist of 56 ovens each and stand 6.25 m tall. The complex will be capable of producing 1.4 million tons of coke annually. The complex also includes three dry quenching systems, a set of coke oven machines, coal preparation and coke handling equipment and a tar decanting plant.
“Paul Wurth’s hardware supplies will include critical and patented equipment and systems such as the coke oven doors, refractories, machines and the SOPRECO system for single-oven pressure control,” the company said.
Commissioning is scheduled for September 2021.
Vadim Germanov, director of Severstal’s Russian steel division, said the new batteries will allow Severstal to use cheaper raw materials but maintain coke quality.
