Severstal Places 400K Ton Galvanizing Line Into Service
04/23/2018 - PAO Severstal’s Cherepovets mill has started up a new continuous galvanizing line and produced its first coil, according to the equipment supplier on the project.
According to CMI Group’s industrial division, the line is designed to produce 400,000 metric tons annually and operate at speeds of up to 180 m/min.
"With this project, the Russian steelmaker is not only significantly increasing its output of higher added value products, destined for the construction and white goods industries, but also its share of Russia’s apparent consumption," CMI said in a statement.
The line includes multi-stage cleaning sections and ultra-low emission furnaces; CMI’s patented jet cooling system; an in-line skinpass mill and tension leveler, chemical roll-coat post- treatment, and a rotary exit shear.
"With the unit up and running, Severstal will be able to produce galvanized steel up to 3 mm thick for manufacturers of ultra-light steel for thin-walled constructions, which will encourage development of this technology in Russia," Severstal said in a statement.
The new line was one component of broader project through which Severtal built a coating workshop at an equivalen cost of US$127.5 million USD. In addition to the galvanizing line, the workshop houses a polymer coatling line capable of processign 200,000 tons annually. It went into service in 2017.
