Severstal NA Welcomes North American International Auto Show to Detroit

Severstal North America, one of the largest U.S. steel producers, specializing in the full range of the high quality, flat-rolled carbon steel products, welcomeed the 2013 North American International Auto Show to Detroit with an expanding line of advanced high-strength steel products.
To support its North American automotive customers, Severstal recently completed an extensive modernization of its Dearborn, Mich., facility by launching a new pickle line tandem cold mill (PLTCM) complex and hot-dip galvanizing line (HDGL) to meet growing automotive demand for premium steels in finished and coated applications.
The new facilities are capable of producing the latest generation of steel products for the most precise automotive applications. The PLTCM allows Severstal to expand its longstanding tradition of producing boron hardenable steels for structural and safety applications in automotive designs, while the HDGL creates zinc-coated steel products for both critical exposed automotive stampings and a range of hot-dip zinc coated advanced high-strength steels.
“Steel has been completely reinvented in recent years as it aims to meet the stringent weight and fuel efficiency requirements of automotive applications, while maintaining exceptional properties for passenger safety, affordability and recyclability,” said Sergei Kuznetsov, CEO, Severstal North America.
“Severstal has been on the forefront of the lightweight automotive steel movement, and we are looking optimistically at 2013 and beyond. We want our steel to be the material of choice for our automotive customers,” Kuznetsov continued.
Severstal is exploring its strategic options to build a new continuous annealing line to provide the next generation of ultra-high strength steels.
