Severstal Lights a New Reheat Furnace: ‘Spark’
01/14/2022 - The Russian steel producer has launched the first of three new slab reheating furnaces provided by international engineering group Fives at its Cherepovets Steel Mill, according to a press release.
The Fives furnace, symbolically named “Spark,” is the first to be brought on-line as part of a major upgrade at Mill 2000, which produces 65% of Cherepovets Steel Mill's (CherMK) output.
"The construction of the first reheating furnace is the beginning of a major upgrade of furnace facilities [at] Mill 2000. Our goal is to increase the productivity and energy efficiency of the equipment while reducing production costs,” commented Nikolay Savatin, head of CherMK’s rolling production revamping department.
Savatin said the furnace uses an on/off burner heating concept and has a productivity twice as high as any of the existing furnaces at Mill 2000.
