Severstal Izhora Mill Delivers Pipes for Pipeline Project in Asia

ZAO Izhora Pipe Mill, the specialist manufacturer of large diameter pipes made from strip produced by Cherepovets Steel Mill, both enterprises within the Russian Steel Division of OAO Severstal, one of the world’s leading steel and steel related mining companies, has shipped pipes for the construction of the Central Asia — China international gas pipeline.

Since January 2013 the Izhora Pipe Mill has supplied CAC with approximately 30,000 tonnes of 1,219 millimeter pipes with 17.5 millimeter thick walls made of X80 high strength steel with both internal and external coating.

The large diameter pipes were made using rolled sheet produced by the Cherepovets Steel Mill at the Mill 5000 sheet rolling facility. The production, testing and shipment was controlled by MOODY International. The products were made to comply with US standard API Spec 5L. The API Spec 5L compliance certificate enables the Izhora Pipe Mill to deliver pipes for modern oil and gas projects.

Mr Alexander Grubman CEO of Severstal Russian Steel said that “Severstal has significant experience as a supplier for major international energy projects including the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta and Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas pipelines and the Purpe-Samolor and ESPO II oil pipelines. Through our quality and process performance controls at each production stage—from the extraction of raw materials to steelmaking to the manufacturing large-diameter pipes — we guarantee that products delivered to each project are of the highest quality.”

CAC is a gas pipeline running from the Caspian Sea via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to China. It links Central Asia's major natural gas deposits to China's gas transmission system.
