Severstal Invests RUB11 Billion in New Long-Range Wire Mill
02/24/2020 - PAO Severstal is investing the equivalent of US$168.4 million in a new wire mill at its Cherepovets Steel Mill, the Russian steel producer has announced.
"The new mill will allow Severstal to considerably improve our long product and metalware supply chain, end to end. We will take on our subsidiary Severstal-metiz’s microstructure and strict requirements in terms of long product surface quality and will also be able to expand our product range,” said Severstal chief executive Alexander Shevelev.
The mill, which will be incorporated into Cherepovets’ long steel rolling operation, is being designed with an annual capacity of 1 million metric tons. It will be able to produce wire in diameters of 14 mm to 32 mm.
The mill will include a heating furnace; a hydraulic descaling unit; stands 3, 4, 5 and 6; a laying head; a Stelmor air-cooling line; a Garret winder line with a rotating coil; and a packing line.
Start-up is planned for the second half of 2022.
