Severstal Columbus Earns International Automotive Quality Recognition

Severstal North America recently announced that SRI Quality System Registrar has awarded it an ISO/TS 16949:2009 and an ISO 9001:2008 management system certificate for the manufacture and supply of steel coils.

“SRI is pleased to acknowledge that Severstal Columbus has demonstrated effective implementation of a management system that satisfies the tough auto standard: ISO/TS 16949,” stated Christopher H. Lake, President and Chief Operating Officer of SRI. “This certification shows their automotive customers worldwide that Severstal Columbus is committed to being recognized as a long-term supplier of quality goods and services.”

ISO/TS 16949:2009 is an international “sector-specific” technical specification with particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2008 for automotive production and relevant service part organizations. It was developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in conjunction with the international standards community. When coupled with the customer-specific requirements, and auditing and qualification procedures, this technical specification provides the basis for an IATF-recognized registrar such as SRI to certify Severstal Columbus.

“Sales to the automotive industry are a critical component of the Columbus strategic plan,” commented Jim Hrusovsky, Vice President and General Manager, Severstal Columbus. “Our certified Quality System will help in efforts to continuously improve our business.”
