Severstal Appoints General Director of OAO Olkon

OAO Severstal announced the appointment of Alexander Nikolayevich Popov as General Director of the Olenegorsk Mining and Concentration Works (ОАО Olkon), part of the company’s mining division, with effect from March 22, 2011.
 
Nikolayevich, who has been with Severstal since 2006, has held the position of Director of the Vorkuta Transport at Vorkutaugol, another enterprise within Severstal’s mining division, since 2009. Previously, he served as Director of Capital Construction at Kuzbassugol (2006 to 2007) and Director of Procurement at Vorkutaugol (2007 to 2009). He is a graduate of the Kuzbass State Technical University where he majored in Economics and Construction Management.
 
Nikolayevich is replacing Vasily Alexeyevich Chernykh, who is leaving the Olengorsk Mining and Concentration Works to become Head of the mining department for Severstal’s gold division. In his new role, Vasily will be responsible for open-pit and underground operations at eight mines in Russia, Kazakhstan and Africa.
 
The Olenegorsk Mining and Concentration Works (ОАО Olkon) is part of Severstal Resources, the mining division of OAO Severstal. The Cherepovets Metallurgical Works (also part of Severstal) is [a/the] major consumer of the Olenegorsk iron ore concentrate. In 2010, the Olenegorsk Mining and Concentration Works supplied 4.17 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate to its customers.
