SeverCorr Welcomes New Process Steel to the Neighborhood

New Process Steel (NPS) is the latest business partner to join the SeverCorr site near Columbus, Miss. Initial plans call for NPS to construct a 150,000–ft2 facility that will employ approximately 50 employees when fully operational.
“New Process Steel is a natural partner for SeverCorr and we’re excited they are joining us in Mississippi,” said Michael Wagner, SeverCorr’s Chief Commercial Officer. “Their focus on using only the most technologically advanced systems – both in their processing and their sales and customer service functions – mirrors our own commitment to being the next generation of steelmaking.”
Based in Houston, NPS has service centers across the United States and Mexico. The center being built at the SeverCorr site will provide downstream processing for light-gauge pickled, cold rolled and galvanized products, 0.130-inch and lighter. The facility will have slitting and blanking equipment with 72-inch wide capacity. For NPS, the ability to add these wide products to its product mix is one of the most appealing factors of locating on a portion of the 1400-acre mega-site that SeverCorr has set aside for business partners.
“An alliance with SeverCorr is an opportunity we just couldn’t pass up,” said Bob Proch, NPS Chief Operating Officer. “We have had a long-standing presence and commitment in the southern U.S. and Mexico. It is notable, to say the least, that with SeverCorr there is now a top-quality, 72-inch wide steel producer south of the Mason-Dixon Line—being run by some of the best in our industry. We strongly believe the market will continue to grow in the South and Mexico and we look forward to working closely with SeverCorr to expand our collective business in a targeted and responsible fashion that will best serve our customers.”
The new NPS plant is expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2008.
SeverCorr LLC was formed in 2003 to design, engineer, build, and operate a state-of-the-art steel facility to service growing manufacturing opportunities in the Southern United States. The company broke ground in October 2005 at a site near Columbus, Miss. When complete in the third quarter of 2007, the plant will produce 1.5 million tons of high-quality steel per year for use in the automotive, building, agricultural, pipe & tube, and appliance industries. The company is situated on a 1400-acre mega-site that is designed to accommodate production partners and related manufacturers onsite.
Since 1906 inception in Dallas, Texas, New Process Steel has become a leader in flat-rolled steel distribution, processing, and manufacturing. Now headquartered in Houston, the company has strategically located facilities across the United States and Mexico and is one of the largest privately-owned service centers, with a focus on surface-critical and corrosion-resistant flat-rolled steel. The company’s vision is to become a one-of-a-kind, world-class company dedicated to its customers, suppliers, employees, and community.
