SES to Build Flash Bainite Process Line
02/07/2018 - SFP Works LLC, the entity that is working to commercialize a steel produced by way of a patented heat-treat process, has chosen strip processing and material handling equipment specialist SES to build its first production line.
In a statement, SES said the coil-to-coil line will produce Flash Bainite from strip in 48-inch widths. Flash Bainite is a process that significantly strengthens common steels -- but preserves ductility -- through a heat treatment involving rapid heating and cooling. The process employs standard industrial induction heating and waterbath quenching.
SES said the line will be designed to process sheet in thicknesses of 0.07 inches.
SES said it was chosen due to its experience with building process lines and equipment that can handle the new advanced, high-strength steels.
The line will be commissioned in early 2018.
