Service Center to Set Up Shop at Nucor Steel-Arkansas

“Site selection and building design have been completed, and we are communicating with Nucor and our customers on appropriate equipment requirements,” Ed Camden, Calstrip’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The facility, which is to be built out in three phases, will operate slitting and multi-blank, cut-to-length lines, and will support both Nucor customers and Calstrip’s medium- and high-volume service center customers.

The initial phase of construction is expected to cost US$15 million. The project is being driven by Nucor’s specialty cold mill, which is to come on-line next year. The mill will enable production of advanced high-strength steels; high-strength, low-alloy steels; and motor lamination steels.

The facility, which is being built next to the cold mill, will be Calstrip’s fourth and will expand its footprint into the mid-southern U.S.

“We are excited to have Calstrip constructing a facility on our site. Investments like our specialty cold mill complex create opportunities like this to bring additional economic development and jobs to the local community,” said MaryEmily Slate, vice president and general manager of Nucor Steel-Arkansas.
