September Steel Shipments Rise 3.9% above August
11/19/2009 - U.S. steel mills shipped 5,793,000 net tons for the month of September 2009, a 3.9% increase from August according to the latest report from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 5,793,000 net tons for the month of September 2009, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The September total represents a 3.9% increase from the 5,570,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, August 2009, and a 26.9% decrease from the 7,920,000 net tons shipped in September 2008.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes:
- Hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, + 24.0%
- Hot rolled sheet, + 8.0%
- Cold rolled sheet, + 1.0%
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. The Institute comprises 24 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 138 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry.
