In a statement, SMS group said it outfitted the converter with an electrohydraulic torque retainer. The retainer is intended to reduce forces on the gears, bearings and converter car during gas injection. 

In addition to the equipment, SMS group supplied the electrical and automation systems and oversaw installation and commissioning.

“The new torque retainer from SMS group has significantly reduced the vibrations of the AOD converter. We experience the benefits of this modernization every day. Maintenance costs will be reduced significantly,” said Seungheon Lee, general manager of the steelmaking facility team.
