SDI's Heart is in Steel, But Its Mind is on Aluminum

According to The (Columbus, Miss.) Dispatch, more than 400 attended the ceremony. SDI chairman and chief executive Mark Millett told the audience that SDI chose to build the plant in Columbus largely because of the strength of its labor force.

“The work ethic, the loyalty — it’s just phenomenal in this area and in the state of Mississippi in general. That’s why we’re here,” Millett said.

Site preparation is underway as the company awaits environmental permits. Major construction is to begin in six months, according to the newspaper.

The project is the largest corporate capital investment in Mississippi's history.
