SDI Grows Mexican Scrap Capacity Through Acquisition

“Combined with our existing metals recycling facilities in Mexico, the addition of ROCA significantly strengthens our ferrous and non-ferrous raw material procurement strategy in the region,” said Steel Dynamics chairman and chief executive Mark D. Millett.

“We believe our Mexican metals recycling facilities will provide a meaningful advantage to our electric-arc-furnace steel operations and planned aluminum flat-rolled products operations, while also providing a high-quality, customer-centric option for our customers in Mexico and the United States.”

Headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, ROCA operates five ferrous and non-ferrous scrap processing facilities that sit near high-volume industrial scrap sources. It currently ships approximately 575,000 gross tons of scrap annually.

Steel Dynamics said that with the addition of the ROCA scrap yards, the company now has more than 2.5 million gross tons of processing capability in Mexico.
