Scrap Steel Consumption on the Rise in China
12/27/2018 - As new electric arc furnaces come on-line, China’s scrap steel use is expected to cross the 200-million-metric-ton threshold by 2020, if it hasn’t already, Argus Media reports.
According to Argus, one government forecast predicts that scrap use will exceed 200 million metric tons by 2020, although a separate forecast from another organization holds that scrap use will reach 220 million metric tons this year.
For comparison, apparent scrap consumption in the United States stood at an estimated 62 million metric tons in 2017, according to U.S. Geological Survey data.
