According to a Scrap Metal Services announcement, the multi-year agreement formalizes a new partnership that will provide consulting and management solutions to support Optimus’ productivity enhancement strategies.

“This contract is an integral part of SMS’s ongoing efforts, which includes a diversified presence in the domestic and international markets, as SMS is targeting and actively expanding its mill service activities to align with its overall growth initiatives,” said SMS chief executive Jeremy Kirchin.

Optimus Steel operates a long products mill in Beaumont, Texas, USA.  The mill has a melt capacity of around 700,000 tons per year and produces wire rods, coiled rebar and billets. Optimus acquired the mill from Gerdau at the beginning of the year.
