SCHALKE Receives Order for Coke Oven Machinery in Brazil

Presently Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) - a Brazilian company - is building a new steel plant situated in Pecém in the state of Ceará, Brazil. Shareholders of CSP are the companies Vale, Dongkuk and POSCO.

Already in May, the Korean company POSCO E&C - a branch of POSCO Company Ltd. - has placed the order for these coke oven machines that should operate at coke plant CSP with the consortium consisting of KIC, SCHALKE and POSCO ICT.

Together in a consortium with them, SCHALKE previously processed the project POSCO Gwangyang in South Korea very successfully and presently it is working mutually at the project POSCO Krakatau in Indonesia with really good prospects.

In this new project PAUL WURTH company will build the required coke oven batteries 1&2 with 50 ovens each and an oven height of 7.6 m.

With this order SCHALKE is once again able to underline its outstanding position as technology leader in the area of coke oven machinery especially for large capacity ovens. Since 1992 SCHALKE has meanwhile designed and delivered more than 140 machines for batteries made by Uhde company as well as by PAUL WURTH - each battery having an oven height larger than 7.6 m and a chamber width bigger than 500 mm.

This time the scope of delivery consists of: Each two charging cars, coke pusher machines, coke transfer cars, locomotives and coke quenching cars as well as four battery maintenance cars.

The date for the First Coke at batteries 1&2 is scheduled for January 2015.
