SBQ Meltshop Returns to Service
08/31/2017 - Production has resumed at an Illinois meltshop after a breakout disrupted operations for slightly more than two weeks.
"Repairs from the fire in the meltshop have been completed," Jeff Hoerr, Alton Steel’s general manager of sales and quality told The (Alton, Ill.) Telegraph.
"Full operations resumed (21 August) at the start of the regularly scheduled (evening) shift," he said.
The accident occurred 5 August when approximately 100 tons of molten steel broke out of a ladle, igniting fires. There were no serious injuries reported, but one person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, the newspaper said.
