Saudi Steelmaker Upgrades Bar Mill Drives
05/04/2017 - Danieli Automation has won a contract to upgrade a portion of the No. 3 bar mill at SABIC’s Saudi Iron & Steel Co., the equipment manufacturer has announced.
Danieli said that under the contract, it will install new 690-volt main drives on the mill’s finishing section. The new drives, which will be fit into the mill’s existing footprint, will be integrated into the current automation system.
In addition to the drives, Danieli will install new drive panels and motor controls for the No. 12 through No. 18 stands, the No. 2 and No. 3 shears; the No. 1 and No. 2 pendulum drive knives; and the bar mill’s pendulum drive.
“All of this will be supplied together with the necessary hardware and software modifications to quickly establish communication between the new drive panels and modules and the existing PLC’s level 1 automation system,” Danieli said in a statement.
The project is designed to lessen maintenance and is expected to reduce power consumption.
