Al Qaryan Steel Company from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed an order with SMS Concast for the design, manufacture and commissioning of a micro steel mill to be installed in Dammam. With the process route to be realized in Phase 1 consisting of an induction furnace, ladle furnace and continous caster, Al Qayran will make its first step into the value-added production of commercial billets. A second phase will add a second steel shop and caster as well as a rebar rolling mill with final production of 600,000 tonnes per year.

SMS Concast will supply all of the technological equipment. Apart from the above specified components, this will include a water treatment plant, dust collection system, shop cranes, material handling equipment and related supervision services.

The signing ceremony for Phase 1 took place on 7 June 2012 and was attended by chairman of Al Qaryan Steel Ltd, Mohammed Qaryan Al Qahtani, executive representatives of the group, and group managing director of SMS Concast, Stefan Rutishauser.
