According to Sarralle, the line, to be installed at the stainless manufacturer’s Kentucky plant, will be capable of processing sheet from 0.4 mm to 3.0 mm thick. It also will be capable of handling coils weighing up to 35 tons. 

Sarralle said the line will utilize ancillary components pulled from a French mill operated by NAS parent Acerinox Group. Sarralle will refurbish those components at its Azpeitia, Spain, manufacturing facility, where it also will design and fabricate new core coil slitting equipment for the line. 

In addition to refurbishing and supplying the mechanical equipment, Sarralle will oversee assembly and installation of hydraulic and electrical systems. 

Sarralle said the new line will be fully automated and come equipped with a Sarralle level 2 interface to the existing NAS enterprise resource planning system. The line is to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2022. 

The NAS order is a continuation of major contracts that Sarralle has been recently awarded in the United States. The contracts include a caster modernization at Steel Dynamics Inc.’s Roanoke, Va., bar mill; a new eccentric bottom-tapping electric arc furnace at Nucor Corp.’s Birmingham, Ala., bar mill; and a complete new meltshop and fume extraction and material handling systems for the AM/NS Calvert rolling facility in Alabama. AM/NS Calvert is a joint venture of ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Corp.
