Samuel Steel Pickling Expands Surface Inspection Partnership with ISRA VISION Parsytec
03/18/2015 - Samuel Steel Pickling Inc., a specialist in pickling and value added services for steel production, recently expanded its facilities’ inspection systems.
It selected a comprehensive inspection system from ISRA VISION Parsytec for its Cleveland, Ohio, facility in order to augment and load-balance surface inspection with their Twinsburg, Ohio, facility.
In 2012, an ISRA VISION Parsytec inspection system was installed at the Twinsburg Samuel Steel facility. The matrix-camera system, used for the top and bottom surface inspection of the entire strip surface on a push-pickling line, was integrated without complications in the existing production plant. To ease the maintenance and cleaning of the system, the MoveCab, moveable sensor options were incorporated. The performance of the system in all respects, from defect detection and classification, integrated line width measurement, Quality Reporting demonstrated the immediate value of the additional investment. The defect cataloging, with unambiguous assignment to a specific coil, together with the ease of service and maintenance were extremely beneficial to Samuel Steel. The return on investment for the inspection system was quickly realized.
The increasing customer demand for surface quality inspection reports and data, along with the confidence and experience gained from previous installations, led Samuel Steel Pickling to order an identical, additional inspection system. At the same time, they also upgraded the Twinsburg system, bringing both facility inspection systems current to the latest technology. The scope of the project includes a two-sided SURFACE MASTER system with traversing sensors (MoveCab) for maintenance without line downtime as well as an upgrade for the Twinsburg facility.
The SURFACE MASTER product line is the new industry standard for automatic optical surface inspection of metal strip. SURFACE MASTER defines the inspection performance entirely, capitalizing on the number of correct quality decisions. The system concept enables perfect, scalable solutions for metal surface inspection.
In addition to an inspection classification rate of almost 100%, SURFACE MASTER provides easy integration and operation as well as fast commissioning. The standard components utilize the latest state of the art technology. Coupled with a global support network 24/7, user-replaceable spare parts and components with optional redundancy ensure maximum system availability.
The unique and fast defect classification of SURFACE MASTER reached new levels of performance for the classification rates, the operational speed and the initial system set-up. The multi-stage classifier provides excellent defect detection. In combination with the high-resolution area scan sensor used at Samuel Steel Pickling, this leads to the best inspection services. With full quality information at a glance, delivered in real time, along with certified reporting and analysis tools, SURFACE MASTER ensures 100% accurate quality decisions.
As part of the order for the Cleveland installation, the inspection system in Twinsburg was upgraded to the latest version of SURFACE MASTER. The Twinsburg facility inspection system has been very beneficial for Samuel Steel, and is now up to date.
Samuel Steel Pickling has decided to make this investment based on the high reliability and performance of the existing inspection system in Twinsburg, as well as the short payback period and the MoveCab option for maintenance without line downtime. Samuel Steel Pickling is absolutely convinced of the multiple benefits of the inspection system, and have made themselves available for reference visits, during which they openly describe the advantages of the inspection system from ISRA VISION PARSYTEC, promoting that fact on Samuel Steel’s own website.
ISRA VISION Parsytec is the world's largest supplier of surface inspection systems in the metal industry: Today, 18 of the top 20 steel producers employ its products.
