Salzgitter Pursues Purchase of ArcelorMittal Facilities
07/16/2018 - German steelmaker Salzgitter AG has submitted a formal offer to acquire ArcelorMittal’s production facilities in Dudelange, Luxembourg and Liège, Belgium, according to the company.
If the offer is accepted, Salzgitter would acquire two cold rolling lines capable of producing tinned, hot-dip galvanized and electrolytic galvanized steel strip.
“Whether this will ultimately result in Salzgitter AG acquiring the production facilities is uncertain as the divestment procedure is a competitive process in which several bidders may bid,” the company said in a statement to investors.
In particular, the deal is dependent on ArcelorMittal’s planned acquisition of the ILVA facility in Italy. ArcelorMittal announced in April that it was ready to divest six of its European operations in exchange for its purchase of ILVA, an effort intended to appease anti-competition concerns raised by the EU.
