Salzgitter Group Receives Order for Baltic Pipe Project
10/02/2019 - Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH (SMID) has received an order for 30,000 metric tons’ worth of steel pipe and 90 steel pipe bends for the Baltic Pipe Project.
In an announcement, the German company said most of the order, about 24,000 metric tons’ worth, will be filled by Mannesmann Grossrohr, which makes large-diameter spiral weld pipe. The remainder of the volume will be made by its EUROPIPE joint venture. The bends will be produced by Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech.
Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH will be responsible for the entire project coordination from preparation of the offer through to execution of the order. In addition, SMID and its shipping partners will be responsible for the project logistics, including delivering and stacking pipes and bends at 24 different storage areas along the route of the pipeline.
The Baltic Pipe Project will carry natural gas from Norway to Poland via Denmark. The pipeline is intended to help diversify the European natural gas market.
