Salzgitter and SENNEBOGEN Present Green Material Handler
04/08/2025 - At bauma this year, an international trade fair for construction and mining machinery, German companies SEENEBOGEN Maschinenfabrik GmbH and the Salzgitter AG subsidiary DEUMU revealed a material handler built largely from CO2-reduced SALCOS® steel.
“We are pursuing ambitious climate targets and are therefore constantly working on the efficiency, durability and sustainability of our machines during operation,” said Erich Sennebogen, president of SENNEBOGEN.
The machine, the SENNEBOGEN 830 G, was largely made using 100% scrap and produced using an electric arc furnace (EAF), including green electricity. Salzgitter estimates this saved over 70% of CO2 emissions in the components they supplied.
Salzgitter handled scrap procurement and steel production, rolling of the heavy plates and processing. Weldable steel construction components with the usual properties and quality were then supplied to SENNEBOGEN.
“The handling machine with components made from recycled scrap is part of DEUMU's process chain and ensures that the electric arc furnace at Peiner Träger and, from 2026, Salzgitter Flachstahl’s new SALCOS® route are supplied with scrap,” said Uwe Rehren, managing director at DEUMU.
The companies said after the trade fair, the material handler will be used for scrap handling at Germany’s largest scrap yard in Salzgitter.
