Salzgitter Adds Green Steel to Product Lineup
11/13/2020 - Salzgitter AG has begun producing low-CO2 slabs, allowing the steelmaker to offer a green strip steel to customers.
According to Salzgitter, differentiated dimensions and grades will be available before the year is over.
“The Salzgitter Group is a pioneer in the production of low-CO2 steel. We are demonstrating this yet again by setting up our production route of green steel via the Peine mini-mill and the rolling process in Salzgitter,” said Salzgitter chief executive Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann.
“A large number of customers consider it important to take delivery of a real, physical, reduced-CO2 product now rather than being satisfied with more or less theoretical CO2 footprint projections. Furthermore, together with our partners, we are intensively working on switching steel production to a low-CO2, hydrogen-based process through our SALCOS – Salzgitter Low-CO2 Steelmaking innovation project, which will enable a reduction in CO2 of up to 95%,” he added.
