SaltX to Take On the Steel Industry’s Green Transition
04/14/2022 - Swedish energy storage company SaltX is working with metal research institute Swerim to study energy storage for the country’s steel industry.
In early 2021, SaltX Technology began a collaboration with LuleKraft, Luleå Energi, and Swerim to reduce CO2 emissions for the Swedish industrial sector. According to SaltX, a pre-study has shown that its short- and long-term energy storage technology can increase energy efficiency and lower climate impact for the steel industry.
“We are convinced that energy storage systems such as SaltX technology have an important role to play in making future steel production fossil-free. Energy storage also has the potential to be applied for energy optimization in many other heavy industries where we at Swerim are involved,” Mikael Larsson, business area manager at Swerim, said.
