SAIL Wins Big Rail Order From Iran
11/02/2015 - State-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) will supply about 100,000 metric tons of rail for a system expansion in Iran, according to reports.
According to India’s Business Standard newspaper, the company will export the rail from its flagship Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), which houses its rail mill.
The order is for rail lengths of 18 meters, which is requiring the installation of new equipment to fulfill the order, the newspaper said.
"Special equipment is being procured from overseas suppliers for creating new facilities in the existing rail and structural mill of BSP,” a company spokesperson told the newspaper.
The equipment includes a new German-made hot-stamping machine and a new non-destructive testing facility from Austria, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper said the system expansion is part of a larger infrastructure investment program in Iran, which plans to add an extra 10,000 kilometers of track to its rail system by 2025.
