SAIL Mill Contracts Japan’s Air Water for Industrial Gases
10/09/2023 - Japanese industrial gas supplier Air Water will invest the equivalent of US$90.6 million in an air separation unit as part of a new supply contract with an Indian steel mill.
According to Air Water, the unit will serve the Steel Authority of India Ltd.’s Durgapur plant in the country’s eastern side. It will supply oxygen, nitrogen and argon, with production to begin in October 2025.
Air Water said the project will help expand its overseas business overall, but also gives it a greater presence in India, which it views as a growth market.
“The (Indian) steel market is anticipated to continue to achieve remarkable growth and demand for industrial gases is most likely to be brisk,” the company said.
“In this environment, Air Water India is working to expand its business under the basic strategies of winning new projects for on-site gas supply for steelmakers and building a gas supply chain network through the expansion of its base.”
