SAIL Fires Up New Silicomanganese Furnace
12/13/2016 - Steel Authority of India Ltd. has announced that its Chandrapur ferroalloy plant has begun ramping up a new silicomanganese furnace, said to be India’s largest.
According to Tenova Pyromet, which supplied the 45 megavolt ampere furnace, the unit is fully automated and was manufactured in India.
“This project demonstrates Tenova Pyromet’s extensive process experience and project execution skills,” said Andre Esterhuizen, Tenova Pyromet’s general manager for sales and marketing. “Despite the remote area and language barrier, we delivered successfully on our commitments to the client who also recognized the contribution of Tenova Pyromet personnel in maintaining an exceptional safety record on-site.”
The project included the design, manufacture and installation of the furnace and auxiliary equipment, refractories and structures. It also tested and commissioned the furnace.
The furnace is serving a new plant designed to produce 100,000 metric tons annually of ferromanganese.
