SAIL Celebrates Completion of Major Plant Upgrades
06/14/2018 - India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited the Steel Authority of India Ltd.’s Bhilai Steel Plant to mark the completion of company’s expansive modernization program.
Through the program, the steelmaker invested the equivalent of around US$10.3 billion to increase capacity from 13 million metric tons to 21 million metric tons.
The program included installation of a new blast furnace at the Bhilai plant. The furnace, blown in this winter, increased the plant’s hot metal capacity from 5 million metric tons to 7.5 million metric tons annually.
