SAIL Announces Addition to Product Mix
07/22/2020 - The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has expanded its product know-how, producing for the first time a type of stainless steel that’s generally unavailable from domestic manufacturers.
According to the Indian state-owned producer, it can now make SS 32205 super duplex stainless steel, which has uses in chemical processing equipment, oil and gas exploration, pulp and paper production, food processing, and biofuel plants.
“All of these applications require high-corrosion-resistance steel with strength, which can be met by super duplex stainless steel,” the company said. “With the new capability to produce (this steel), SAIL has enriched its product basket further and will be able to cater to high-end steel requirement in the country.”
SAIL said the development work was carried out at its Salem Steel Plant, Up until now, the material was generally imported.
“The development of this high-end grade is an effort (to advance India’s capabilities). We are confident of actively partaking in ‘Making In India’ and ‘Making For India’ and supplying steel which is required in expansion of infrastructure in the country,” said SAIL chairman Shri Anil Kumar Chaudhary.
